A 21-year-old woman was killed and a 47-year-old man was injured in a fatal traffic collision early Sunday morning, Mar. 2, 2025 on I-5 near 272nd Street in Federal Way, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Multiple lanes of I-5 (at milepost 146) near Kent were blocked after the collision, which occurred at approximately 12:14 a.m. early Sunday, and blocked traffic for over three hours.
Incident Details:
- Vehicle 1 (2024 Mercedes GLS SUV) was traveling northbound in lane 5 (far right).
- Vehicle 2 (2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck) was traveling northbound in lane 3.
- Vehicle 1 struck the left side of Vehicle 2.
- Vehicle 1 rolled multiple times before coming to rest in lane 1.
- Vehicle 2 veered off and came to rest in a roadside ditch.
- The roadway remained blocked for 3 hours and 26 minutes.
Victims Identified:
- Siham I. Hassan, 21, of Federal Way, was the driver of Vehicle 1 (Mercedes GLS) and was pronounced deceased at Harborview Medical Center.
- Brian E. Chesvick, 47, of Gig Harbor, was the driver of Vehicle 2 (Toyota Tacoma) and suffered non-fatal injuries.
WSP stated that Hassan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while Chesvick had his seatbelt on.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward as the investigation continues.
