An 84-year-old Kent man died following a two-vehicle crash on Monday morning, Jan. 27, 2025 on East Hill.

The accident occurred around 9:48 a.m. in the 25000 block of 104th Avenue SE (map below), prompting multiple 911 calls from witnesses who reported a serious collision.

When officers arrived, they found the victim’s 2011 Ford Ranger overturned on its driver’s side with the man trapped inside. Puget Sound Firefighters used extraction tools to free him, but despite medical aid at the scene, he was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2014 BMW SUV, remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Witnesses reported seeing the BMW driving recklessly in the turn lane just before colliding with the Ford Ranger, which was legally entering the roadway from a private drive.

Kent Police’s Traffic Unit is investigating the crash, collecting evidence and witness statements to determine its cause. The roadway was closed in both directions for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family during this tragic time,” a Kent Police spokesperson said.
