Kent Police officers and staff from the Washington Department of Corrections joined together last week to run, walk, bike and escort the Special Olympics torch through Kent as part of the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
According to the Kent Police Department, participants included AC Grove, Officers Hadley, Hegamin, Meade, Cortinas, Heyne, Robinson and Stotler, Sgt. Kelso, Chaplain Pat, Cmdr. Tung, Traffic Officers Brennan and Castro, along with Department of Corrections staff.
The Kent Police Department said the Torch Run is a longstanding tradition for the agency and neighboring law enforcement partners.
“This is a long standing tradition for Kent PD and our surrounding agencies,” the department said in a statement. “For decades we have come together for this awesome cause.”
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is held annually to support Special Olympics programs and athletes. Law enforcement officers across Washington and throughout the nation participate in torch runs and related fundraising activities to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics.
The Kent event brought together officers, support personnel and community partners to escort the torch through the city while promoting the mission of Special Olympics and celebrating the athletes it serves.
