A 37-year-old Kent man was killed Friday morning, Sept. 25 when his vehicle crashed into a fence along Military Road South, according to the Kent Police Department.
Kent Police officers, Puget Sound Fire crews and medics were dispatched at 8:48 a.m. Sept. 25 to the northbound lanes of Military Road South, just south of Kent-Des Moines Road (map below).
Puget Sound Fire crews extricated the driver from the vehicle. Police said a piece of the fence entered the vehicle and struck the man, causing a fatal injury.
An adult passenger was not injured. He told investigators that the vehicle was traveling downhill toward the Kent-Des Moines Road intersection when the driver said the brakes were not working.
The passenger said the driver then veered away from vehicles stopped at the bottom of the hill before crashing into the fence, according to police. Investigators have not confirmed whether the vehicle experienced a mechanical failure.
The Kent Police Traffic Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Initial evidence does not indicate that intoxication was a factor, police said.
