On Wednesday, Mar. 27, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Julie Parascondola announced the promotion of Cindy Robinson to the position of Senior Center Manager, effective April 1.
Here’s more from the city:
Cindy has been serving as the interim Manager for the past 16 months while also continuing her duties as one of three Program Coordinators at the Center. During that time, she has demonstrated strong leadership, experience and knowledge regarding senior issues, needs and interests as well as compassion and care for those served at the center and will only continue to grow and evolve in her new role. Cindy cites former Manager, Lea Bishop as a strong influencer and mentor in her professional development and is proud to both honor Lea’s legacy and also build upon that foundation in the years to come.
Cindy was born and raised in Michigan. She attended Calvin College where she earned a degree in Therapeutic and Commercial Recreation. She relocated to Washington state where her early work focused on long term care for seniors. Cindy took on a variety of part-time assignments within Kent Parks Adaptive Recreation Programming in 1997 and when a position opened up at the Senior Center in 2001, Cindy knew she needed to apply. Her passion, skills and knowledge earned her that position, and she has been serving Kent seniors for the past 18 years.
Cindy stays connected to other agencies and professionals in her field through the Washington State Association of Senior Centers. She has served four terms on the association board and is currently association treasurer. Cindy is married and has three beautiful children. She and her family enjoy a wide variety of recreation opportunities while spending time with friends and extended family.
Kent is well known and respected across Washington for quality senior programs and services. Cindy looks forward, with enthusiasm, to continuing the legacy of excellence in senior programming at the center while encouraging and exploring new ways to reach out to our diverse community. This appointment is effective April 1, 2019. Staffing needs and backfills will occur thereafter as we continue to look towards the needs of the Center and those they serve, please stay tuned for more information on opportunities that may arise, for those staff who may be interested.
