As Kent prepares to welcome 2025, Mayor Dana Ralph reflected on the past year’s achievements and shared updates on city closures, programs, and opportunities for the community in her latest weekly email.
Closures
City Hall, the Centennial Center, Kent Commons, the Senior Activity Center, and the Municipal Court will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.
Fireworks Illegal
The mayor also reminded residents that fireworks are prohibited in Kent, with violations reportable to the non-emergency line at 253-852-2121.
Kent 101 Civics Course
Applications are now open for the Spring 2025 Kent 101 Civics Course, an eight-week interactive program that introduces residents to local government operations. The program starts in February, with a submission deadline of Jan. 30. Those interested in deeper community engagement can also apply for the City’s Parks & Recreation Commission or the Fire Department’s Disability Retirement Board.
Campus Park Redevelopment Project
Additionally, Kent Parks is accepting feedback for its Campus Park Redevelopment Project, with activity boards available at the Kent Library through Jan. 6, or via an online survey. Registration has also opened for the Parks Department’s winter programs, including activities for all ages.

- Spotlight Series performance Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents New Orleans Songbook on Jan. 24.
- ShoWalk Program, offering free indoor walking at accesso ShoWare Center during winter mornings.
Mayor Ralph concluded by congratulating Jeremy Perkins, a Combination Building Inspector in the Economic and Community Development Department, for being named December Employee of the Month for his outstanding service and leadership.
