Three men were arrested early Friday, Oct. 3 in a downtown Kent park after officers found they had multiple outstanding warrants and one was carrying a large quantity of methamphetamine, according to the Kent Police Department.

Police said Officer Joss was on routine patrol around 6 a.m. when he contacted a group of people inside the closed park. Officers frequently encounter vandalism and drug use in parks during overnight hours, police said.

One man, a 51-year-old Kent resident, initially gave officers a false name and birthday and claimed to never have had an identification card. After a fingerprint scan, officers determined he had a Department of Corrections no bail warrant for escaping community custody for failure to register as a sex offender.

Police said he was also carrying a large amount of methamphetamine, which he claimed he had found in a parking lot.

A second man, a 25-year-old from Buckley, was wanted on an Auburn warrant for $5,100 related to drugs.

A third man, a 38-year-old Kent resident, had two warrants totaling $6,300 for criminal trespass and possession of controlled substances.

All three men were arrested without incident and booked into jail, police said.

The department encouraged anyone struggling with drug use to seek help. Local treatment resources are available at rehabs.org. Those in crisis can call 988 for 24/7 assistance from trained professionals.
