A man who jaywalked directly in front of a Kent police vehicle was arrested after officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence assault.
The incident occurred when Officer Lentz was driving down a roadway and had to brake suddenly to avoid colliding with a 42-year-old Kent resident who stepped into his lane. After stopping to check on the individual, Lentz ran a routine check and found the man had a $7,600 warrant issued in Kent.
The man was taken into custody without incident.
“We are glad that he is in custody for his warrant, but we are also hoping this teaches him to not dart out in front of traffic,” Kent Police said in a statement. “But…we ARE also hoping this teaches him to not dart out in front of traffic.”
Jaywalking, especially in a manner that forces drivers to swerve or stop abruptly, poses a serious risk to both pedestrians and motorists.
Authorities urge pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and remain aware of oncoming traffic to avoid dangerous situations.
