Kent Police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 61-year-old Des Moines man on Friday night, October. 26, 2024 along Pacific Highway South.
Police said that at approximately 10:28 p.m., officers and medics responded to the 26600 block of Pacific Highway South (map below), where they found the man deceased in the roadway.
Initial reports indicate the male victim was crossing outside a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound vehicle. Moments later, a second northbound vehicle also struck him as he lay in the road.
Both drivers remained at the scene, cooperating fully with investigators. Preliminary findings suggest that intoxication did not play a role in the accident.
The Kent Police Traffic Unit is conducting a thorough investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the full circumstances leading up to the incident.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim and confirm the official cause of death.
This tragic incident underscores pedestrian safety concerns in the area, particularly for those crossing outside of marked zones on high-traffic routes.
