This week the Kent Police Department issued the following warnings to paddleboarders:
“Did you know that 6 stand up paddleboard fatalities have occurred in Washington state?
“Of the 6 total, 4 of these fatalities have occurred in just the last 45 days!! None of the victims were wearing a life jacket or the paddleboard leash.
“A stand up paddleboard is a vessel and subject to recreating boating laws and ordinances. Most importantly, safety is the key message we want to share.
“So, if this Labor Day holiday weekend you’ll be doing the stand up paddleboard thing – please review and follow these tips!”
