All schools in the Kent School District will be closed on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, as crews continue to work to restore power and address safety concerns following a severe windstorm earlier this week.

The district’s administrative campus will remain open.

Friday will be the third day in a row that schools have been closed due to effects from Tuesday’s “bomb cyclone” weather event.

Currently, 17 schools are without power, and three others have been deemed unsafe for occupancy. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) estimates that power will be fully restored by Saturday, Nov. 23. Power has already been restored at the district’s administration campus.

“We appreciate your understanding as we continue to prioritize the safety of our students and staff,” the district said in a statement.

District officials are working closely with PSE to ensure schools can reopen safely as soon as possible.
