The Kent School District announced that all schools and the administrative campus will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, as the region continues to recover from a severe windstorm.

This comes a day after the district closed all schools on Wednesday, Nov. 20, due to power outages and hazardous conditions caused by the “bomb cyclone” windstorm.

As of 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening (Nov. 20), 20 schools and the district’s administration campus remain without power.

Additionally, seven schools with restored power still face safety concerns due to damaged or hazardous trees that require further assessment and removal, officials said.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we work diligently to ensure schools can safely reopen,” the district said in a statement.

Updates on closures and progress will be posted on the district’s website.
