Kent Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred late Friday night, July 19, 2024.
This is the second recent kidnapping attempt in Kent this month (read about the other one here).
Police said that on Friday night, at 10:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment at 700 E. James Street (map below) after receiving a 911 call reporting an attempted kidnapping. The caller stated that an unknown man had reached through a window and grabbed their young daughter.
Upon arrival, officers were informed by the child’s parents that the suspect had threatened and grabbed their daughter by the hair while she was in the bathroom. The man tried to pull her through the window but fled in an unknown direction after being unsuccessful.
Despite a search involving multiple K-9 teams, Kent officers, and the King County Sheriff’s Guardian 1 helicopter, the suspect was not located.
The suspect is described as a Black man, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, thin, bald with some facial hair, and appearing to be in his early 40s. He was wearing a blue hoodie.
Kent police are urging residents near 700 E. James Street to check their security cameras for footage of the suspect from around 10:46 p.m. Friday.
