Washington State Patrol detectives are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage after a motorcyclist tragically died in a collision with a Porsche on southbound SR 167 just north of SR 18 on Monday, Sept. 28.

As The Auburn Examiner previously reported, the collision sadly killed Zachary Ty Johnston, 24.

The driver of the 2025 Porsche 911 was taken into custody on suspicion of vehicular homicide under the statute’s reckless driving provision, according to a State Patrol release issued Oct. 1.

Witness accounts indicated the motorcycle and Porsche were traveling at high speeds and apparently racing before the Porsche changed lanes and struck the motorcycle, ejecting the rider, the State Patrol said.

Dispatchers received 911 calls reporting the collision at approximately 12:45 p.m. The motorcyclist was dead when troopers and firefighters arrived, according to the agency.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to email Detective Ford at John.Ford@wsp.wa.gov.
