Kent Police have identified and charged a 16-year-old driver in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on July 13, 2024.

The teenager has been charged as an adult.

On the night of the incident, Kent Police Officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle spotted on Kent’s East Hill. The vehicle fled when patrol officers attempted a traffic stop. It subsequently collided with another vehicle in the 26100 block of 104th Avenue SE. Despite immediate medical efforts, the 41-year-old driver of the second vehicle succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. He was identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Alizar A. Kachiyev.

The suspect driver fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a 14-year-old female passenger with significant leg injuries. She was found near the car and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit, led by Collision Investigator Officer Bateman and supported by Officer Brennan and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, meticulously pieced together the evidence. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old Kent resident who had recently been released from home detention with an ankle monitor for prior felony offenses. The teenager was already in King County Juvenile Detention, having been arrested in another stolen vehicle a few days after the fatal crash.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has filed charges against the teenager in adult court, including Murder in the Second Degree, Vehicular Homicide, Hit and Run-Death, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Eluding Police.

“Kent PD wants to thank the King County Prosecutors Office for their support during the investigation,” police said.
