The National Weather Service is warning that the threat of shallow landslides and flooding will increase with heavy rains that are expected Saturday night through Sunday.
“If you notice the signs of an impending landslide or see a landslide in progress, contact your county Emergency Manager,” authorities say.
Meteorologist Cliff Mass adds:
“The 48-hour total ending 4 p.m. Monday is just amazing, with the highest amounts hitting 10 inches (in a very small area) Not the profound rainshadow to the SE of the Olympics. They will get essentially nothing. And dry just to the east of the Cascade crest. Such huge precipitation contrasts make Northwest meteorology fascinating.”

… Flood Watch remains in effect from midnight PST tonight through late Monday night…
The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of northwest Washington and west central Washington, including the following counties, in northwest Washington, Skagit and Whatcom. In west central Washington, King, Pierce, and Snohomish.
* From midnight PST tonight through late Monday night
* a frontal system will produce periods of rain over the area through Monday. The heaviest rainfall will fall along the west slopes of the Cascades and river basins late tonight and Sunday with snow levels between 6000 and 8000 feet. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected.
* At this time, most flooding that occurs in the watch area is expected to be minor. However, a few rivers could hit moderate flood stage, and a couple of locations may reach major flood stage.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
