A 64-year-old Kent woman tragically died Monday evening, Feb. 2, after being struck by a northbound freight train near the 1000 block of First Avenue North, according to the Kent Police Department and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officers were dispatched at 5:51 p.m. Monday to reports of a train striking a pedestrian on the BNSF tracks.
Puget Sound Fire personnel told police the woman did not survive the impact and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the initial investigation, officers reviewed video that showed the woman standing on the tracks and waving at the approaching train. Conductors told police they sounded the horn in an attempt to divert her and immediately tried to stop the train. They later located her a short distance from where she had been standing.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Pamela Christine Slott, 64, of Kent. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force injuries. The incident occurred near 1001 First Ave. N. (map below), according to the agency.
Police used the incident to remind the public about the dangers of railroad crossings and train tracks.
“We would like to remind everyone that trains moving on tracks can appear deceptively further away and as traveling much slower than their actual speed,” police said in a statement.

Everyone at South King Media sends out their deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Pamela.
