Kent Police responded to a carjacking incident near Kentridge High School at around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 2024, after a 27-year-old Newcastle man reported that a suspect posing as a potential buyer of his vehicle stole it at gunpoint.

After taking the car, the suspect fled to the high school parking lot, where the vehicle was found abandoned.

The school was placed on immediate lockdown as police searched for the suspect, a juvenile, who was later apprehended without incident inside the school.

There is no ongoing threat, and the school was put under a modified lockdown while authorities process evidence.
