Two felony suspects were arrested on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, after a stolen vehicle pursuit and foot chase involving Kent Police Department officers.
Police said the incident unfolded around 2:15 p.m. when Kent PD Officer Joss was notified of a stolen 2004 Chevy Silverado traveling eastbound near E Smith and E Titus streets. Officer Joss quickly located the unoccupied vehicle in a parking lot on the 25900 block of 104th Avenue SE (map below).
Acting swiftly, Officer Joss placed a tire deflation device behind the truck and, along with fellow officers, waited nearby to see if the driver would return. At approximately 2:37 p.m., a male suspect exited a nearby store and attempted to drive off in the stolen truck. When officers activated their emergency lights, the suspect leapt from the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers Joss, Holloman, and Burns pursued the man, who ignored commands to stop and attempted to outrun the officers. The 43-year-old suspect from Maple Valley was quickly apprehended after a brief foot chase. A search revealed he had drugs on his person and was wanted on a King County warrant for Trafficking in Stolen Property, valued at $5,050.
After being read his Miranda rights, the male suspect identified a female accomplice still inside the store where the stolen truck was found. The woman, a 40-year-old from Seattle, had a warrant for Failure to Appear on charges of Robbery 1, Assault 2 by Strangulation, and Kidnapping 1 from Skagit County. She attempted to leave the area unnoticed but was located by Officer Jones and Detective Pribble, who were assisting in the search. In addition to her outstanding warrant, the woman was found to have stolen items from the store, which were recovered by police.
The coordinated efforts of Officers Joss, Holloman, Burns, Jones, and Detective Pribble, along with leadership from Sergeants Levi and Stewart, led to the successful arrest of both suspects.
“Great job by the Officers on Sergeant Levi and Stewart’s crews, spotting the stolen vehicle, chasing the male suspect, and locating the female suspect,” police said. “The Officers made this complex arrest look seamless with their tactics, communication, and collaboration. Nicely done!”
