Kent Police officers arrested a 47-year-old man on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024 after he allegedly assaulted his wife and threatened her with a weapon in a chaotic domestic violence incident in the 11000 block of Kent-Kangley Road (map below).
Officers were dispatched following a 911 call reporting suspicious circumstances in a neighboring apartment, which was later escalated to a possible stabbing, according to Kent Police.
Police said that when officers arrived at the scene, they encountered multiple juveniles in and around the apartment. Officer C. Thompson made initial contact with a 44-year-old victim who reported that her husband had assaulted her during an argument. The woman told police that her husband had grabbed her by the hair, dragged her around the apartment, and threatened to kill her. He reportedly bit her hand and armed himself with a knife or similar weapon, again threatening her life.
The couple’s adult children attempted to intervene, with an 18-year-old daughter reportedly punched in the stomach and face by her father as she tried to protect her mother.
Upon arrival, officers could hear screaming and moved toward the sound. They found the suspect armed and in a bedroom, restrained by two juveniles who were preventing him from leaving the room. Officers Curl, Rojas, V. Johnson, and A. Rankin successfully disarmed and took the man into custody without further injury to anyone.
The suspect faces two counts of domestic violence assault and one count of felony harassment for allegedly making death threats.
“Great teamwork by the Officers from Sgts. Clark, Mello, and Clay’s crews who worked cooperatively together with excellent tactics to ensure that the victim and children inside the house were not further injured,” police said.
Police also reminded the public that 911 services are available to all, regardless of language barriers. The family involved was initially unaware they could call 911 without speaking English. Kent Police emphasized that interpreters are readily available for non-English speakers, and residents should not hesitate to call in emergencies.
