Kent Police Department officers, supervisors, and the department’s chaplain participated in the 2025 Special Olympics Washington Law Enforcement Torch Run, joining thousands of law enforcement personnel statewide in a symbolic show of support for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
As part of the relay, Kent officers received the Flame of Hope from the Des Moines Police Department and carried it three miles before passing it to the Federal Way Police Department.
The torch continues its journey across Washington, passed from agency to agency, en route to the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a long-standing tradition among police departments, symbolizing a commitment to inclusion and community support for Special Olympics athletes.
“Thank you, Special Olympics, for letting [us] have a small part in supporting your work. You are an amazing organization,” the department added.
The event not only raises awareness but also helps fund programs that support more than 19,500 Special Olympics athletes across Washington.
