Two armed suspects were arrested Monday afternoon, April 14, 2025 after leading Kent Police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle, crashing into a patrol car, and attempting to flee on foot in a crowded apartment complex, authorities said.

Police said that at around 2:33 p.m. on Monday, Patrol Officer Heyne spotted a stolen maroon 2014 Kia Sorrento near the 25600 block of 98th Ave S. (map below). When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver—a 36-year-old Seattle man—struck the front of Heyne’s patrol car while trying to flee the parking lot. The collision brought the suspect’s window within inches of Officer Heyne’s, giving the officer a clear view of the man’s face.

After crashing into the landscaping on a return to the complex, both the driver and his passenger—a 44-year-old Kent woman—attempted to run. Officers quickly located the woman.

The male suspect, in a failed attempt to evade arrest, tried to blend in with bystanders but was quickly identified and arrested by Officer Heyne.

“Officer Heyne got a great look at him,” Kent Police said in a statement. “Unfortunately for him… there were also witnesses and evidence placing him in the car.”

A firearm with an obscured serial number was recovered from the driver’s seat, and the man was booked for felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and altering firearm identifying marks.

The woman, who was under Department of Corrections (DOC) supervision, was arrested at the scene. A later search of her residence uncovered a pump-action shotgun and methamphetamine. She will face additional charges from DOC and Kent Police.
