In recognition of Family Caregiver, Alzheimer’s, and Long-Term Care Awareness Month, the Kent Police Department is reminding residents about the “Take Me Home” program, a national initiative launched locally last November to aid in the safe return of individuals who may have difficulty communicating or require special assistance in emergencies.

“The Take Me Home program is designed to support individuals with autism, Down syndrome, developmental or cognitive disabilities, dementia, Alzheimer’s, or similar conditions,” said Stacy Judd, from the Kent Police Department’s Community Education Unit.

The program allows families and caregivers to complete an online registration form, including a photo and identifying information about their loved one. This information is stored securely in a database accessible only to Kent Police officers. When officers encounter someone who is lost or disoriented, they can use the database to quickly identify the individual, locate emergency contacts, and access key details such as their address.

Additionally, if a caregiver reports a loved one missing by calling 911, officers can immediately access the submitted information, including photos, to streamline the search.
