Quick response by Kent Patrol Officers early Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, 2025 led to the capture of a woman attempting to burglarize a home in the 700 block of Woodford Avenue North (map below).

Officers Silas, Landi, and Bertolacci were dispatched at 2:22 a.m. after the homeowner, observing live security camera footage, reported a woman testing doors and wandering the property.

The homeowner described the suspect as a female wearing a puffer jacket, red gloves, and carrying a backpack.

Upon arrival, officers found the 38-year-old suspect hiding near the home’s south wall. Despite being confronted with evidence from the security video, the woman denied involvement, gave a false name, and fabricated her reasons for being in the area.

Officers recognized her from prior encounters and confirmed her identity, uncovering multiple active warrants for crimes including identity theft, providing false statements, and possession of stolen property.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Kent jail for her warrants, providing false statements, and second-degree criminal trespass.

“The suspect has been contacted before in our city for similar crimes,” police said in a statement. “This time she was thwarted in her burglary attempt by security video, a calm 911 caller, and speedy Patrol Officers.”

Authorities noted that nighttime burglaries of occupied homes are uncommon, as most burglars avoid confrontations with residents.
