Raman Arora, the owner of Maggie’s on Meeker in downtown Kent, was honored last week with the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the annual PLACES Conference in Walla Walla.
The conference, which gathers leaders and changemakers to discuss the future of Main Street communities, also hosted the Excellence on Main Awards, celebrating local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community-driven projects.
Arora, originally from Punjab, India, was recognized for her entrepreneurial journey and her contributions to the Kent community. After moving to the Seattle area at age 25, she pursued her dream of owning a restaurant. For many years, she worked at Dairy Queen, then Wild Wheat Bakery & Café, while diligently saving her money. On April 1st, 2024, she finally achieved a life goal and became the grateful owner of Maggie’s on Meeker restaurant, an iconic women-owned legacy business in downtown Kent since 2005.
“Raman embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship through her innovative approach and tireless efforts,” the Kent Downtown Partnership said. “While it hasn’t been easy, since opening Maggie’s, Raman has thrived as a business owner. She continues the legacy of this beloved and long-standing community hub, known for its exceptional cuisine, welcoming atmosphere, and strong community connections.”
Since taking over, Arora has maintained the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere while consistently giving back to local charities and community causes. Her journey, supported by friends, loyal customers, and her “American Mother,” Kaki, has been marked by dedication, innovation, and a passion for excellence.
“She is a proud supporter of American military personnel and veterans and contributes to nonprofits and charities such as Kent Downtown Partnership, Kiwanis Club, March of Dimes and Lions Club,” the KDP added.
The Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes Arora’s impact on the local community and her commitment to revitalizing Kent’s Main Street.
Her story is a testament to hard work, resilience, and the importance of supporting small businesses.
Congrats Raman!
