A man was shot and killed Tuesday evening, Sept. 15 at the Metro Park and Ride in Kent, and police are investigating whether a second report of gunfire nearby is connected.
Kent officers were dispatched at 6:07 p.m. to the park and ride at 23405 Military Road South (map below). after 911 callers reported hearing gunfire and seeing a man on the ground, according to the Kent Police Department.
Officers found the victim with apparent gunshot wounds and immediately began lifesaving efforts. Puget Sound Fire and King County medics continued treating him, but he died at the scene.
The victim had not been positively identified as of Tuesday evening. Police described him as an adult male believed to be between 18 and 25 years old.
Witnesses told investigators that one or more suspects fled before officers arrived, but they could not provide a physical description or information about a vehicle. Initial evidence indicates the shooting was not random, police said.
Kent detectives responded to the park and ride and are investigating.
A second shooting was reported shortly after 8 p.m. near Kent Des Moines Road and Pacific Highway South, a few blocks from the park and ride. Officers found spent cartridge casings near a restaurant southwest of the intersection, according to police.
Police found no indication that anyone was struck in the second incident. Officers continued searching the surrounding area for witnesses and other information.
Detectives did not have enough information Tuesday night to determine whether the two incidents were related. Police said investigators would examine the available evidence as they worked to make that determination.
Neighboring law enforcement agencies were notified about both shootings and the limited suspect information available.
