Proactive policing by Kent officers on Saturday night, Jan. 25, 2025 led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles and the arrests of two suspects in separate incidents, showcasing swift action and determination to curb car theft in the city.

The first arrest occurred at 7:22 p.m. when Officer C. Blowers spotted a stolen green GMC Sonoma near 1st Avenue N. and W. Meeker during a routine patrol.

The driver, a 23-year-old Auburn man, attempted to evade police by driving into Kaibara Park, ditching the vehicle on Ramsey Way, and fleeing on foot. Officer Blowers, undeterred and quick on his feet, apprehended the suspect near a parking garage after a brief chase.

The GMC, stolen a day earlier in Federal Way, was recovered, and the suspect is now in custody.

Hours later, at 12:35 a.m., Officer K. Petersen responded to reports of a silver 2021 Hyundai Tucson stolen from the 6300 block of S. 239th Street. Within just four minutes, Petersen located the vehicle on Central Avenue S., stopped it in a parking lot, and arrested the 26-year-old Kent resident driving it without incident.

“Any night is a bad night to drive a stolen car in Kent. If you’re here in one, chances are high we’ll find you and take you to jail,” Kent Police said in a statement.

The swift recoveries underscore Kent Police’s proactive efforts and safe tactics in addressing vehicle thefts, ensuring public safety, and returning stolen property to its rightful owners.
