Northbound lanes of State Route 167 were fully blocked just south of SR 516 in Kent following a serious collision on Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2025.

The closure – caused by a 3-car serious injury collision involving a wrong way vehicle – also impacted the 277th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 167, as well as the southbound HOV lane near SR 516.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported that the crash occurred around 3:08 a.m. Sunday morning when a black Cadillac CTS was traveling southbound in the northbound HOV lane. The Cadillac sideswiped a blue Honda CR-V before colliding head-on with a white Subaru Outback, causing both the Cadillac and Subaru to catch fire.

The drivers of the Cadillac and Subaru, a 22-year-old Tacoma man and a 33-year-old Puyallup man were transported to Harborview Medical Center with injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 59-year-old Puyallup man, was not injured.

Investigators believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. The Cadillac driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, is facing vehicular assault charges.

The incident blocked the HOV lane and two main lanes of SR 167 for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate.
