The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 charged Troy Walton, 26, of Kent with multiple felonies, including first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree rape, second-degree assault with sexual motivation, and indecent liberties, following a brutal attack on a woman earlier this month.

As we previously reported, Walton is accused of violently assaulting a 29-year-old woman near Central Avenue in Kent on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

According to charging documents filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Walton allegedly grabbed the victim from behind as she walked near the McMonigal Veterinary Hospital, dragging her into nearby bushes.

The victim was strangled until she lost consciousness and woke to find Walton sexually assaulting her.

Despite her injuries, the woman fought back, biting Walton and escaping. She was later treated at Harborview Medical Center and released.

On Monday, Sept. 16, Kent Police detectives canvassed the area and obtained surveillance footage that helped identify Walton as the suspect. Walton was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 17 near the Kent Transit Center, still wearing the same clothing he wore during the assault. In an interview with detectives, Walton confessed to the attack, admitting his intention to rape the victim. He has been booked on charges that include kidnapping, attempted rape, and assault with sexual motivation.

Prosecutors have requested bail be set at $750,000, citing concerns over Walton’s risk to the community and a prior conviction for a sexual assault just a month earlier.

Walton is also currently on probation for a separate case of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.
