EDITOR’S NOTE: ‘Just Jeff’ – aka Jeff Heiss – is our newest columnist:
I have books I haven’t read. I didn’t intend for that to happen. It just did. Admittedly, I own a few books I suspected I’d never read, books by authors I wanted to support, but, books I likely wouldn’t read, like poetry.
Otherwise, all the books I’ve bought I intended to read eventually. Good intentions? Certainly. Inspiration? Maybe. Impulsive? Possibly. Just the same, I intended to read them. Yet, there they sit. Unread. Collecting dust. For some, their time has come and gone; parenting – my kids are grown; divorce – that’s long over; business – well… Still, I keep them. I don’t know why. Probably the same reason I keep clothes I don’t wear.
Unread books: I don’t know what to do with them, so they stay. They take up space on a shelf that might otherwise be empty. It’s probably less about reading the books and more about simply having them.
