Early Friday morning, June 14, 2024, Kent Patrol Officers responded to an East Hill apartment complex where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly assaulting an Uber driver and attempting to take his car.

Police said that the Uber driver, who had picked up the woman in Everett, reported that she fell asleep in his car. Upon waking, she became extremely agitated and started yelling at the driver. The driver exited his vehicle to call 911, during which the woman moved to the driver’s seat and tried to steal the car. Surveillance footage captured her attempting to drive off and hitting the driver when he asked her to leave the vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene to find the woman striking the driver with her phone. She was placed in handcuffs and charged with misdemeanor assault and vehicle trespass.

During questioning, the woman provided a birthdate that would make her four years old, claimed the Uber driver was a maintenance man who handcuffed her while fixing her sink, and denied ever being in the Uber despite clear evidence to the contrary.

“Seriously, if you are this charming when you get drunk/high, please just stop drinking,” police said. “It’s dangerous for you and definitely dangerous for others. We are thankful at least that she initially took an Uber from Everett, and she is lucky that the Uber driver was a good guy. This could have gone very differently.”

Authorities emphasized the dangers of excessive drinking and urged individuals to seek help if they struggle with substance abuse. Resources are available through local treatment centers and crisis hotlines.
