Meet the finalists for the Fire Chief position
The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority would like to invite the public and the media to a reception to meet the finalists for the position of Fire Chief.
The reception will begin with a social where people can meet the candidates and representatives of the Regional Fire Authority. Each candidate will then be allowed several minutes to introduce themselves followed by a question that they will need to answer in front of the audience. The reception will end with another opportunity for the audience and candidates to mingle casually.
A total of 14 -16 qualified candidates were evaluated by a stakeholders group in late June before the final three were selected.
The search for a new Fire Chief began when current Chief Jim Schneider announced his retirement after 15 years with the department. Chief Schneider retires at the end of August.
Under Chief Schneider’s leadership, the fire department became an Internationally Accredited agency; One of only 300 in the world. In 2010, we became a Regional Fire Authority. During Chief Schneider’s tenure the City of SeaTac began contracting with the RFA to provide fire and emergency services to the 10 square miles of city surrounding SeaTac Airport.
The latest landmark event was the renaming of the Kent Regional Fire Authority into the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority. The name change was done to better reflect the 60 square mile emergency response area that we serve, which includes the cities of Covington, Kent, SeaTac, as well as Fire District 37.
