An adult male was killed Saturday evening (November 19) after a small car crashed through the exterior wall of his apartment. Kent RFA firefighters were dispatched at 6:22 PM to a report that a vehicle had struck an apartment building in the 10800 block of SE 240th Street, Kent. Click here for the story.

NEW–PSSC to Host Demos on Dangers of Holiday Cooking, Nov. 22
This Tuesday, November 22, the Fire and Emergency Services program of the Puget Sound Skills Center (PSSC) will host demonstrations highlighting the potential dangers of holiday cooking. The first demonstration will show what can happen when deep frying a turkey. Overfilling the container, overheating the oil, and using a frozen turkey are all common issues that can lead to a home disaster. Learn more here.

HomeStreet Bank in downtown Kent (505 W. Harrison St.) is hosting a toy drive to the Children’s Home Society of Washington. The bank is requesting donations of new toys and books for children from newborn through age 12. Donations can be dropped off at the downtown Kent branch during normal business hours. NEW–Kent Community Foundation Hosted ‘Kent Has Talent’ Nov. 18
Bender Hosts Kent Has Talent for Kent Community FoundationFriday evening the Kent Community Foundation hosted its first-ever Kent Has Talent at Kent-Meridian Performing Arts Center to an enthusiastic crowd of families, friends, fans and community members with Bender of KISS 106.1 as the show’s emcee. The event’s winners are:

Kent Event: KDP's Holiday Sip 'n ShopKDP to Host Holiday Sip ‘n Shop, Nov. 26
EVENT CANCELED
If you like wine walks, you’ll love Kent Downtown Partnership’s first-ever Holiday Sip ‘n Shop, scheduled for Sat., Nov. 26 (3 PM to 6 PM) in downtown Kent. Eight downtown businesses will host eight wineries, distilleries and cider vendors. A $20 ticket gets each participant 8 tastings and a souvenir glass. Bring the family out to Kent Station on Sat., Nov. 26 to welcome the arrival of Santa and the Santa House. Enjoy holiday music by the Kent-Meridian High School choir while you wait for his arrival at approximately 11 AM.

NEW–Kent Police Dept. Hosts Vehicle Theft/Prowl Awareness Booth Sat., Nov. 26
Kent Police Department to Host Vehicle Theft/Prowl Awareness Booth “The Club” to be given away to certain vehicle owners November 26thThe Kent Police Department is teaming up with the Washington Auto Theft Prevention Authority and Kent Station to share information about how citizens can reduce the risk of their cars being broken into or stolen. As part of the event, free steering wheel locking devices – “The Club” – will be given to owners of vehicles most likely to be stolen in Kent: 1990 to 1999 model Hondas, Nissans, Acuras and Toyotas. Any person who brings in a registration for one of the older import cars listed above will be given a free Club. Click here for more details.

NEW–More than 100 Vendors at Kent Commons’ Holiday Bazaar, Dec. 2-3
The City of Kent is hosting its annual holiday bazaar at Kent Commons (525 N. 4th Ave., Kent, WA) on Friday, Dec. 2 (10 AM – 5 PM) and Saturday, Dec. 3 (9 AM to 4 PM). The two-day event will feature more than 100 vendors with unique, handcrafted items perfect for gift giving this holiday season. Click here for more information.

NEW–Tacoma Stars to Host Youth Soccer Night on Sat., Dec. 10
Take your soccer team and family to ShoWare Center on Youth Soccer Night. Players in uniform will be able to participate in the halftime onfield parade. Tickets are $11 each. Click here for details.

City of Kent seeks volunteers for boards, commissionsCity of Kent Seeks Volunteers for Boards & Commissions, Deadline: Dec. 9
The City of Kent is seeking volunteers for the Arts Commission, Bicycle Advisory Board, Human Services Commission, Land Use and Planning Board, and Parks and Recreation. Applications are due by Fri., Dec. 9 at 5 PM. See our post for details.
