How to Cook Safely This Holiday Season

This Tuesday, November 22, the Fire and Emergency Services program of the Puget Sound Skills Center (PSSC) will host demonstrations highlighting the potential dangers of holiday cooking.

The first demonstration will show what can happen when deep frying a turkey. Overfilling the container, overheating the oil, and using a frozen turkey are all common issues that can lead to a home disaster.

Following the turkey demonstration, PSSC will show what happens when water is used in an attempt to extinguish an oil-based cooking fire. Water and oil do not mix and make a bad situation much more dangerous.

Because cooking fires are the most common type of fire that fire departments respond to, the media is invited to participate in these demonstrations and help spread the safety messages as we work to help families have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
